Student Researchers design gadget to harvest water from thin air; DepEd Sarangani supports robotics program

The technology field is rapidly evolving and experts predict that advancements in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and the Internet of Things will profoundly impact society. To keep up with these changes, the education system must adapt and stay current. In line with this, a group of senior high school students from Sarangani Division in the Philippines has taken the initiative to make a difference. The research team consisting of Jan Laurence Guieb, Jhon Wincer Elbo, Vice Navarro, and Francine Aira Sanchez, has developed a project that aims to address a critical need in remote communities - access to clean water. The team has received full support from their adviser, Shiela Butil, PhD and will participate in a training program in Manila on March 13th. They will also receive a grant of Php 50,000 worth of materials to further develop their project, with the possibility of winning a prize of Php 200,000 pesos for the best team. DepEd Sarangani receives awards for professional development and resource efficiency

The Schools Division of Sarangani was recently honored with two prestigious awards for their exceptional performance in professional development for both teaching and non-teaching staff.  During a ceremony held at the Greenleaf Hotel in General Santos City yesterday, the DepEd Regional Office XII awarded SDO Sarangani the major awards, Gawad Kagalingan and Gawad Bagwis. The Gawad Kagalingan is given to the SDO that exhibited exemplary performance in the implementation of professional development for teaching and nonteaching employees. Meanwhile, the Gawad Bagwis is awarded to the SDO for its exemplary performance in the implementation of programs, projects, and activities on personnel performance management, Rewards and Recognition, talent development, and successful planning. CLAFI, LGU Malungon bring home top prizes in 2022 National Literacy Awards

SOCCSKSARGEN’S entries to the National Literacy Awards, both coming from the province of Sarangani, won 2nd and 3rd prizes during the awarding ceremony held in Mandaluyong City, December 1. Conrado and Ladislawa Alcantara Foundation, Inc. (CLAFI), bagged 2nd place in the non-government organizations category, bringing home a cash prize of Php 80,000.00 and a trophy. In the local government units category, the municipality of Malungon garnered 3rd place with a cash prize of Php 60,000 plus a trophy. Not just one, but two of the best photos in the Regional Eliminations of the Civil Service Commission’s online photography competition were taken by two artists from the Schools Division of Sarangani. Darryl B. Soncados, senior high school teacher at Glan School of Arts and Trades bagged this year’s top prize with his entry entitled, “Resiliency in Honing Future Leaders.” “The CSC’s theme for this year is about resiliency. Sarangani won the top prize in the DepEd Dose sa Ere Midyear Awards 2022. Sarangani makes it to the National Literacy Awards 2022

Sarangani is poised to win another set of awards on the national level -- this time, from the 2022 National Literacy Awards. For their contributions to the improvement of literacy, the Municipality of Malungon and the Conrado and Ladislawa Alcantara Foundation, Inc. (CLAFI) were chosen as the representatives of Region XII-SOCCSKSARGEN for outstanding local government unit and outstanding literacy program, respectively, in the National Literacy Awards 2022. The Municipality of Malungon has been actively supporting the programs of DepEd Sarangani through its ICAN in Education (Innovation and Collaboration in Attaining No Limitation in Education) Program. The Benitez Hall inside the Teachers Camp Baguio City was filled with Cheers of delegates from the delegates from Sarangani Division as they bagged several recognitions at the DepEd EdTech Awards 2022, June 22. DepEd Sarangani took home the honor as the Most Outstanding Division Office for DepEd TV due to the support it provided in the production and dissemination of DepEd TV episodes in various teaching modalities. AlSci researchers bag championship in national tilt

Another research team from Alabel National Science High School bagged yet another award, this time from the University of the Philippines-ALCHEMES Research Fair. The team composed of Ernest Gabonada, Trisha Belle Pactes, and Francine Sanchez bested 29 other schools from all over the country in the applied science category. From all the finalists, the roster was cut down to five, and then, in the championship round, the research team from AlSci went head-to-head against the team from Philippines Science High School CALABARZON Region Campus, where they emerged as the champion, and the people's choice as well. As the year 2022 begins, DepEd Sarangani recognizes its achievements in the past year and eyes hitting new targets.  A team of Senior High School learners from Alabel National Science High School bagged a gold medal from the Young Inventor’s Journal for their policy paper on How to Rebuild a Better World Post COVID-19. The team composed of Paul John delos Reyes, Pearl Angeli Santander, Krystell Ferrer, Darlene Sarabosquez, and Natasha Loot is the only qualifier from the Philippines that made it to the Top 10 out of over 100 entries from different countries.
