Temporary learning spaces built for Lun Padidu CES after fire razed 11 classrooms; Save the Children initiates Catch Up Clubs to address learning gaps

 On October 6, 2022, the people of Barangay Lun Padidu in Malapatan, Sarangani Province were jolted awake by the sound of sirens from speeding fire trucks. The Bureau of Fire Protection had reported a raging fire at Lun Padidu Central Elementary School, and eleven classrooms were quickly consumed, along with all the furniture, TVs, chairs, tables, and reading materials. In the face of this disaster, the community sprang into action, grabbing pails to put out the fire with water, showing the true spirit of Bayanihan. But despite their efforts, the damage was extensive, and the school's future hung in the balance. Thankfully, the Sarangani Division and the local government of Malapatan immediately took swift action to help the affected school, recognizing the importance of education for their community's children.  Various organizations and individuals stepped in to fill the gaps left by the fire, providing support to ensure that learning would not be disrupted. Tangali Integrated School receives 170 tablets from DepEd XII

Learners at Tangali Integrated School in North Malungon district will soon experience digital learning as the Department of Education Region XII turned over 170 tablets that they could use in their classes. As part of DepEd's basic education learning continuity plan, DepEd XII procured tablets to be distributed to identified schools in the region, with a preference for schools in far-flung areas, whose learners are usually deprived of learning opportunities enjoyed by learners in more accessible schools. The tablets contain digitized self-learning modules and stories that are intended to support the development of the learners' reading skills and address the unavailability of books and other reading materials. CLAFI, LGU Malungon bring home top prizes in 2022 National Literacy Awards

SOCCSKSARGEN’S entries to the National Literacy Awards, both coming from the province of Sarangani, won 2nd and 3rd prizes during the awarding ceremony held in Mandaluyong City, December 1. Conrado and Ladislawa Alcantara Foundation, Inc. (CLAFI), bagged 2nd place in the non-government organizations category, bringing home a cash prize of Php 80,000.00 and a trophy. In the local government units category, the municipality of Malungon garnered 3rd place with a cash prize of Php 60,000 plus a trophy. In support of the celebration of the Global Handwashing Day, the SOCCSKSARGEN Bloggers a.k.a. Sox Bloggers conducted an event called Fun Day with the Kids of Pag-asa Integrated School, today, October 13, 2022. Sox Bloggers is a community of bloggers, vloggers, and social media influencers who are creating content to show the “real image” of SOCCSKSARGEN to the world and help promote local businesses, events, places, and activities. For their project SPOT (Service. Partnership. Outreach. Thanksgiving.) the Sox Bloggers partnered with International Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (IPI), which donated over 100 hygiene kits, containing Bioderm soap bars and Casino Rubbing alcohol, for the learners of Pag-asa IS. SDO Sarangani to build 12 TLSs for 461 displaced learners at Lun Padidu CES

A month before the targeted return of 100% in-person classes this school year, learners at Lun Padidu Central Elementary School may have to extend its blended learning delivery modality after a fire razed nine classrooms to the ground and severely burned two others just before midnight of October 6. Friends of Hope Foundation to build 3-classroom building at Likon ES

The construction of a three-classroom building at Likon Elementary School is expected to begin soon, after the groundbreaking ceremony that was held there yesterday, August 17. "It’s a dream come true indeed! Finally, Likon Elementary School will have its own concrete classroom building very soon," Likon ES administration posted on their social media page. Sarangani is poised to win another set of awards on the national level -- this time, from the 2022 National Literacy Awards. For their contributions to the improvement of literacy, the Municipality of Malungon and the Conrado and Ladislawa Alcantara Foundation, Inc. (CLAFI) were chosen as the representatives of Region XII-SOCCSKSARGEN for outstanding local government unit and outstanding literacy program, respectively, in the National Literacy Awards 2022. The Municipality of Malungon has been actively supporting the programs of DepEd Sarangani through its ICAN in Education (Innovation and Collaboration in Attaining No Limitation in Education) Program. LRonWHEeLS implementation continues; LGU Sarangani donates 100 antennas

More learners in Sarangani will now have access to technology-aided learning as Smart Communications turned over School-in-a-Bag packages to seven IPEd implementing schools in the province in a ceremony held at the Kasfala Hall, Provincial Capitol Compound in Alabel last February 23.
