Potent Remedy

In a world where knowledge is the cure, the Philippines faces a challenge in ensuring its students have access to the most effective learning tools.  While traditional methods may not be fully optimized, the Department of Education's (DepEd) recent initiative, "Catch-Up Fridays," as stated in DepEd Memorandum No. 1, s. 2024, offers a promising approach. Catch-Up Fridays aims to bolster reading proficiency among Filipino students. This focus on a foundational skill is a positive step in the right direction. By dedicating time to reading, the program has the potential to significantly improve literacy rates. However, the program's execution can be improved. The initial rollout faced hurdles due to a lack of preparation time.  Moving forward, ensuring clear communication and providing teachers with adequate training will be crucial. Additionally, addressing concerns about resource allocation and differentiated instruction will enhance the program's effectiveness. The

To keep up with these changes, the education system must adapt and stay current. In line with this, a group of senior high school students from Sarangani Division in the Philippines has taken the initiative to make a difference. The research team consisting of Jan Laurence Guieb, Jhon Wincer Elbo, Vice Navarro, and Francine Aira Sanchez, has developed a project that aims to address a critical need in remote communities - access to clean water. Tangali Integrated School receives 170 tablets from DepEd XII

Learners at Tangali Integrated School in North Malungon district will soon experience digital learning as the Department of Education Region XII turned over 170 tablets that they could use in their classes. As part of DepEd's basic education learning continuity plan, DepEd XII procured tablets to be distributed to identified schools in the region, with a preference for schools in far-flung areas, whose learners are usually deprived of learning opportunities enjoyed by learners in more accessible schools. The tablets contain digitized self-learning modules and stories that are intended to support the development of the learners' reading skills and address the unavailability of books and other reading materials. The Schools Division of Sarangani has committed to enhancing the learners' use of said tablets by adding interactive learning materials such as automated quizzes and videos that are currently being developed. Assistant Regional Director Rebonfamil R. Baguio, Schools D

Tokawal NHS brings e-Learning closer to the community

It has been a productive Saturday for the LR on WHEeLS team as they start the field testing of the new iteration of the project. Now installed in over 60 schools in the Province, the LR on WHEeLS or Learning Resources on WiFi Hub for Expanded e-Learning in Sarangani continues to engage more learners by bringing it closer to the community. At Tokawal National High School, the school premises and the households around the Barangay Hall are already connected to the LR on WHEeLS network and the learners are already enjoying the benefits of online learning without having to pay for an internet connection. With a few more remote communities still beyond the reach of the LR on WHEeLS network, the school decided to come up with a new project that utilizes the school's motorized vehicle.   Aptly named "Chariot of Knowledge," the project comprising a server, a router, an access point antenna, and at least 15 tablets will be going around the community to provide an e-Learning experi
