Temporary learning spaces built for Lun Padidu CES after fire razed 11 classrooms; Save the Children initiates Catch Up Clubs to address learning gaps

 On October 6, 2022, the people of Barangay Lun Padidu in Malapatan, Sarangani Province were jolted awake by the sound of sirens from speeding fire trucks. The Bureau of Fire Protection had reported a raging fire at Lun Padidu Central Elementary School, and eleven classrooms were quickly consumed, along with all the furniture, TVs, chairs, tables, and reading materials. In the face of this disaster, the community sprang into action, grabbing pails to put out the fire with water, showing the true spirit of Bayanihan. But despite their efforts, the damage was extensive, and the school's future hung in the balance. DepEd RXII revisits DRRM Contingency Plans

With the goal of fortifying their respective disaster preparedness plans, DepEd Region XII conducted a three-day Contingency Plan Enhancement for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Coordinators from January 30 to February 1, 2023, at Isla Jardin del Mar, Glan, Sarangani Province. Fifty-five participants from the eight schools divisions in Region XII, led by their respective DRRM Coordinators, attended the workshop. The Contingency Plan Enhancement was divided into several sessions, each focusing on different aspects of DRRM, such as hazard assessment, evacuation planning, and post-disaster recovery. The sessions were conducted by the Project Development Officer II of DepEd XII, Jann Earl Wendell J. Lope, and the attendees were given opportunities to actively participate in group discussions and exercises. Lope expressed confidence in the capability of the DRRM Coordinators to effectively lead disaster response and recovery efforts in their respective schools and divisions. “

DepEd Sarangani intensifies campaign for COVID-19 vaccination

In support of the national government’s call to promote COVID-19 vaccination, DepEd Sarangani conducted a series of orientation activities to educate its teaching and non-teaching personnel on important information about the vaccination program. According to the survey administered by the Health and Nutrition Section, 5,075 or 89.92% of the teacher-respondents are willing to be vaccinated while 569 or 10.08% hesitated. Among the non-teaching personnel, 569 or 79% said yes to vaccination, while 152 or 21% said otherwise.
